Live Scan is the electronic capture and submission of fingerprint images to The California Department of Justice and or FBI for the purpose of a criminal history search. More and more employers and licensing agencies are requiring criminal history checks before hiring or issuing licenses or certificates to applicants. Prints and identifying information are sent directly to the DOJ and FBI by the live scan operator and the results are sent directly to the requesting agency by the DOJ thus eliminating any tampering by the applicant. Live Scan provides turn around times of only days as opposed to the weeks and months of traditional inked cards. It also greatly increases the operator's ability to capture an acceptable print, by displaying it on a large screen and allowing the operator to reject a bad print and capture another one.
